Sigma FP weekly build 2
This week, I’m highlighting what I call my minimalist videography build—a setup designed to remain as compact and user-friendly as possible, while still allowing for quick expansion when needed.
The accessories that I will be using are:
- NICEYRIG Grip for Sigma FP(Amazon Link)
- DPL Sigma fp Lite SSD rack(Aliexpress Link)
- DPL fp Mate SSD rack Sigma fp L M42 case (Aliexpress Link)
Please note that these are not affiliate links, and I do not earn any money from them. I’ve included these links simply to make it easier for you to source the parts for your own Sigma FP builds.

The NICEYRIG Grip for the Sigma FP is an excellent alternative to a cage, offering the ability to expand your setup while remaining comfortable to hold. Additionally, the small tool cleverly hidden at the bottom of the grip proves to be incredibly useful.

“The NICEYRIG Grip for the Sigma FP offers a comfortable user experience and features numerous mounting points, making it versatile for expanding your setup.
I’ve been using the NICEYRIG for a while now, and it performs well for video work. However, I don’t use the grip when shooting stills, as I find it a bit too bulky and unnecessary for still photography, where mounting points aren’t needed. To me, this grip is designed purely with video shooting in mind. The one drawback of the grip is its weight. If you’re using a gimbal for video work, the added weight of the grip may require you to upgrade to a larger gimbal to maintain balance and functionality.

The DPL Sigma FP Lite SSD Rack is, without a doubt, the most essential piece of equipment for the Sigma FP. In fact, I wouldn’t have purchased the Sigma FP if it weren’t for this incredibly well-engineered accessory
The DPL Sigma FP Lite SSD Rack is an essential component for any Sigma FP video build. Unlike other SSD solutions for RAW video recording, which tend to be bulky and cumbersome, this rack stands out for its small, well-crafted, and highly compact design. Maintaining a minimal camera size is a priority for me—if I wanted a large camera with RAW recording capabilities, there are plenty of options available. However, I’ve grown tired of hauling heavy cameras and lenses. I needed something compact and lightweight, and the Sigma FP paired with the DPL Sigma FP Lite SSD Rack perfectly met that need.

“The Sigma FP, fully rigged with a few SSDs ready to swap out when one fills up, is a remarkably efficient setup for RAW video recording. Given the high storage demands of RAW files, even a 2TB drive can fill up quickly. However, the standout feature is having a RAW-capable camera with 6TB of storage in such an incredibly compact form. Most people wouldn’t suspect you’re capturing extremely high-quality video—it’s so discreet that, unless the camera is mounted on a monopod or gimbal, they often assume you’re just shooting stills

“The accessories complement each other seamlessly. The NICEYRIG Sigma FP cage features a small thumb rest that significantly enhances the camera’s usability and overall handling experience.

“This is my go-to setup for scouting and run-and-gun shooting.

“This setup is highly versatile and can be effortlessly expanded with additional accessories.

If I’m shooting outdoors and need improved visibility of the LCD screen or enhanced audio recording, the system can be expanded quickly and efficiently to accommodate those needs.

It takes less than 30 seconds to add a few extra accessories, which makes this setup ideal for run-and-gun shooting. You can set it up quickly, capture the shot, and dismantle the camera in no time. This efficiency has been invaluable for me in China, especially when I prefer to remain low-profile and avoid drawing too much attention.
The most captivating aspect of the Sigma FP is its limitless versatility. If you can imagine it, chances are you can configure the Sigma FP to fit your vision. Next week, I’ll be working at a music festival, where my camera build will be tailored for behind-the-scenes interviews with bands in the tents. I’ve found that having a camera with a unique appearance is a fantastic icebreaker, especially when meeting new bands for the first time. Stay tuned, as I’ll showcase that build next week.

Shaun.
