Nanjing 2015
After spending some time in Hangzhou, I took the train to Nanjing. Nanjing is only one hour away from Hangzhou, so it was a quick trip.
I really had no goals for the day; I was just spending time with my Chinese friends. We mostly walked around the lake near the train station and visited some of the malls.
The weather was really good, so I enjoyed walking around the lake with my friends. Chinese cities are so densely populated that even this one lake and park have so much to see and do. I guess we walked around the lake for 4 or 5 hours, and I doubt we covered more than 20% of it.
In most big cities in China, if you go to a public park on Sundays, you will often find a scene like this: parents looking for marriage partners for their children. They write up pamphlets with their children’s information and go to the park, hoping to find someone suitable for their child. The one-child policy has had a devastating effect on the male/female ratio in China. In big cities, you can clearly see this imbalance, as boys significantly outnumber girls. During my day at the park, I saw a huge number of men walking around, clearly only looking to meet some women.
One of the many groups of men, going on a hunt, looking for girlfriends and wives. I would guess this park would not be very safe a night for women though. As my female friend said to me, these men look very “Hungry for women”.
After we watched the sunset, it was time to head back home. Nanjing is close to my hometown, so I can basically visit anytime I want. I have always enjoyed my time here, and the city is so huge that I will never run out of places to explore.
