Whats in my camera bag winter 2016
What’s in my camera bag? That is one question I get asked all the time, and it changes from season to season. This is my camera bag right now. I am on holiday, so my bag is completely different from when I am working.
Right now, my bag has a lot of cameras in it, so I will start with them. First is my Nikon FM with the 24mm 2.8 lens. I mostly carry black and white film to shoot with this camera. Next is my Yashica Mat 124-G. She is all beaten up, but I love shooting with her. The final camera in my bag is the Canon G7X, which I only use for video. There is also a Fuji XT1 in the picture, but that does not go into the bag; it is always with me, and I carry it around with my BlackRapid strap. I never leave home without a camera on my shoulder.
I carry a few lenses with me as well. The Nikon 24mm f/2.8 is usually on the camera; it is the widest lens I have for my film camera. I don’t like the lens a lot, but I enjoy shooting wide, so I use it a lot. The Nikon 50mm f/1.2 is always in my bag for shooting portraits or in low light, and my favorite Nikon lens, the 135mm f/2.8, is there just because I love it and look for any excuse to shoot with it. The last lens that I carry is the Fuji XF 10-24mm f/4.
I carry a few rolls of 35mm and 120mm black and white film with me, but not a lot, because I shoot slowly with film. I seldom shoot more than a roll of film in a day.
Electronics: I carry my JayBird BlueBuds X earphones, four extra batteries for the Fuji XT1, a power bank for my phone, and a Kindle to read. China is huge, so traveling can take a long time, making it a good way to kill some time. I also have my pencil bag, business cards, bus money, and memory cards. The bag is a little heavy, but I hardly notice it. My work bag is much heavier than this.
The final thing that is important is the ONA bag, which is the single best photography investment that I have ever made. I am rough on bags and destroy them very quickly. Most bags don’t make it to 8 months. My previous bag was a BILLINGHAM Hadley Pro, which fell apart after 8 months. The ONA bag is getting close to 1 and a half years old now, and it is still in great shape. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
